Today, in website Design...

Question: How did you use a particular command that will help jog your memory in the future?

To remember the CSS command for an external .CSS file you can thing of the code that goes in the head as a picture code except instead of "img src="you put "link rel=" and simply add a "style='text/css" to the tag like you would a height or width tag. Then you close the tag like usual and now the whole page will reflect the css style in the external file.

Question: What choices did you face in developing your solution, and how did you choose them?

To make a table in word was much harder then I though. It kept resizing it and everything and then it would be all mushed. I had to find a font that was small but readable. Other then that I chose my sites to compare based on the variance of features and how often they popped up on my Google searches. Not much else to it!

Question: What progress was made today on your solution? What needs to be done next class?

I know I just answered this but today we had another worksheet and I finished it again. It was about the different types of hosting and different internet terms. Basically, if you pay for your hosting, you are going to get a much better service with a domain and no ads or anything rather then a free site. However for just messing around with your own pages, free sites are not bad, just not for a serious web page.

Question: What progress was made today on your solution? What needs to be done next class?

Made my first multi page website today. Though basic, it is the start to a whole new way of creating elaborate and extensive web pages. It went pretty quick and I finished so nothing else needs to be completed!

Question: How did you use a particular command that will help jog your memory in the future?

As complicated as HTML is, most of the command make complete sense if you think about it. For example: when using the style command you type "style", for font face type "font-face" and color, "color" is used. This can be seen in other commands such as an ordered list. The command is cleverly "ol" standing for "ordered list". Crazy huh?

Question: Are there any specific tips you would give to someone else tackling the same problem? How would what you suggest benefit that person in solving the problem?

This was probably the hardest assignment yet for me because it required one to really play around in the program to see all that it can do in making tables. It took me a while just to figure out that the beach picture had to be a background and not just in the table space as an image file. I would suggest having the picture of the example either right next the dream weaver window or close by to compare every now and then. This way you can better get an Idea for the sizes and layout without having to remember it all.

Question: What problems did you encounter while developing your solution? How do you plan to over come them?/How did you over come them?

We started tables today and I had some trouble getting started, but now have the hang of it. When first making the navigation type table with the different colors it took me awhile to figure out how to get the table to how I wanted it which I achieved by adjusting the cell sizes and deleting/adding columns/rows as needed. The dream weaver crashed so I had to restart as I had not saved. Finally I couldn't figure out how to get the boarders around the white boxes and non around the others and the whole thing. It took me a bit to understand to set the border of the whole thing to 4 pixels and then the main border to white and the inner borders that I wanted yellow set to yellow. Now with my betetr idea of tables I plan to finish up the activity tomorrow or the next day.

Today, in website Design...

Finished up project, but after turning it in realized that I had used copyrighted pictures which is not good. Also I forgot to remove the many other photos in my images folder. Oops, hopefully I can re-turn it in on Monday at the beginning of class.

Question: How did you go about testing your page? What were the results?

Well first I opened in with I.E. and made sure everything looked right, read it over, made sure there were no obvious errors. Then I went down the page and clicked on every link to ensure that it worked the way it should. Then I noted to myself possible fixes and added content that I could add to improve the page. I found only a few link errors mainly with spelling problems for ex. the school link's ID was shcool which caused a dead link in the nav bar at the top. Other then that nothing else was found. I did however add some more links to pages in a few sections.

still working on the project...

Question: What choices did you face in developing your solution, and how did you choose them?

Lets see here...Not too many choices to make on my project as it is mostly already laid out in the rubric/guidelines. I did however decide on a plain grey background with a blue and black graphics/text to give the site kind of mac feel. Also added a small nav area at the top of my page as well as added links to the top after each section. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to add more images and have them organized nicely and neatly. Not much for today.

Today, in website Design...

Started project, learned about design feature in dreamweaver.

Question: Provide yourself with an example of how you use a particular command.

Well we have just learned how to use the "img" tags including the alt="", hieght="" and width="" additions. We also learned that even if you resize the image it is still as big (file size wise) as before just it appears smaller on the page. This could cause problems for those users still with dial-up or just create annoying D/L times. Here is an example of the "img" code in use.

QUESTION:
3. Are there any spesific tips you would give someone else tackling the same problem?
How wouldwhat you suggest benifit that person in solving the problem?

Ok well I found out the problem I was having, the anchors didn't work b/c I had copied and pasted them into dream weaver instead of writing them so it for some reason didn't like that and didn't allow workage. Tips? TYPE IT OUT prob better for remembering and for working. This will help someone with the same problem save a lot of lost time looking for the problem line by line. I also figured out I had left out the last part of the directions and added it to my site before the "exam".

Today, in website Design...

Lets see, today I worked more on my site adding more features like a black background and a nav bar. Also on the actually assignment by adding the necessary sections complete with links and all.

QUESTION:
6. What progress did you make today on your solution?
What needs to be completed next class?

Unfortunately the "go to" links or anchors didn't work... not sure why but i'll check it out. Next class, more refinement and small things but it is looking good so far. should be done by the beginning of class tomorrow!

Today, in website Design...

Question #1:
What problems did you encounter while developing your solution?
How do you plan to overcome them?
How did you overcome them?

I have just started making my first of hopefully many web pages with the help of the "More Tags- more simple html" Worksheet. I have so far encountered only a few problems. One being a bad link code in which the was not properly used as well as some organizational issues. Because of my needing to get to the bus, I had to run out just after checking my progress for the first time. I'm sure it was something stupid where I didn't use a close bracket or am missing a
. Tomorrow I will promptly fix these issues and go on in improving my site.
